The Seasons

All seasons are fine to visit the far North. Be aware that as winter approaches, it can get cold. But the colder seasons bring their own kind of rewards. Lower prices. Less people. Beautiful snow covered mountains and pines.

June, July, and August is warm. September gets cool. October gets cold. Sometimes it snows in October. November is quite cold with snow and ice. December is also cold. January may be the coldest month. In February things start to melt and warm up. March brings the winds and further warming. April and May bring much nicer weather.

In June, July, and August it is T-Shirt weather. In September you need a light jacket. After October count on a heavy jacket.

Winter sports here are perfect, but yoiu must bring all your own stuff. In UlanHot and its grasslands, it is not a tourist area and you can rent or buy  nothing.

No one skis here but the tererain is perfect. Flat for cross country and big hills for downhill. No lifts.

In spring, summer, and fall the hiking and trekking is wonderful. Again, the grasslands near UlanHot are not tourist areas, so just go.

Near Hailar some French tourists wanted to trek for hours. After 8 hours trekking on the grasslands, a car had to pick them up as some of them were exhausted. They asked for it!!!!!

So there are seasons here. If you stay on the grasslands, you will experience all of the seasons firsthand. If you stay in hotels, you will be somwhat protected, but you will still need a good jacket.
