Bikes on the Grasslands
You can also ride bikes on the
grasslands. Bicycles (limited to 6 persons) or motorcycles (limited to
4 persons). The limit is because this is a remote area. The mountain bikes must be brought from Beijing and I have only 6, and the motorcycles are rented in smaller towns.
The bicycles are mountain bikes as you will ride on dirt roads.
Do not try to learn to ride a motorcycle here as it would be dangerous for you. Remember, medical care is very, very far away. Good medical care is a 4 hour drive on a dirt then paved road and then a three hour plane ride away back to Beijing.
You would fly into UlanHot. Or somehow get there.
For or bicycles go directly to a yurt on the grasslands. The bicycles would be waiting for you there. You would then ride anyplace you want, returning to the yurt at night.
For motorcycles, you would fly also into UlanHot, but then drive to HuerLe where you would get the motorcycles at a close friends house. You can have lunch if you want. You would then drive the motorcycles to the grasslands where a yurt would be waituing for you. You can then ride anyplace you want, returning to the yurt at night.
The last day you would ride the motorcycle back to HuerLe, leave the motorcycles, and a car would take you to UlanHot and the airport.
A guide would accompany you. You deceide what you want to see or do. Small towns? Grasslands? Nature? Treking? Picnicing? Just soaking up the place?
Remember you will be in an isolated area. Many people have never seen a foreigner. The yurt will be warm and clean, lots of friends (family), but no showers or bath, hot or cold.
My friend has spent a month at the yurt, and once a week he has me pour a warmed (not too hot) ketttle of water over him to shower. It is up to you. In other areas of the grasslands, people just use a bucket of water poured over themselves.
