What is the difference between Inner and Outer Mongolia

Many people will ask:

"What is the difference between Inner and Outer Mongolia?"

Nara spent a month in Outer Mongolia. She knows.

Remember, at one time it was one. Now it is split.

Inner Mongolia is part of China and is much more developed. Outer Mongolia is much less developed. Outer Mongolia is more North and has beautiful very isolated mountains. Outer Mongolia has a nice dessert.

But because Outer Mongolia is less developed, it is MUCH MORE expensive. Everything has been built for tourists with tourist prices. If you want a 4wd car (recommended), a driver, and guide, count on US$250.00 per day. This does not include food or hotels. This can easily add $100.00 per day.

Inner Mongolia is more developed for domestic Chinese and is cheaper.

Otherwise it is the same. Culture wise, do not expect to see "old" Mongolian culture in either place. Amazingly, Mongolian culture is more access able in Inner Mongolia.
